Who was Ucha Japaridze?

Ucha Japaridze was a Georgian painter.

He was born in Gari, in what was then part of the Russian Empire.

Japaridze was given a number of awards during his life, including Public Artist of Georgian SSR, the Honored Artist of Georgia, academician of the Georgian Academy of Arts, laureate of the Shota Rustaveli State Prize and an Honored Citizen of Tbilisi. He was a rector of the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts He died in Tblisi in 1988. His former home in Tbilisi was turned into a museum in the same year.
