Who was Abdul Majeed Didi?

Abdul Majeed was the sultan of the Maldives from 1944 to 21 February 1952. But he never accepted the crown and mostly he spent his life in Egypt. The government was run by an Executive council which was led by his son Prince Hassan Fareed Didi in the name of sultan Majeed Didi. He spoke fluent Urdu, Arabic, English and Sinhalese. At first he served as the vice PM at his fathers time. Then later became the Prime minister of Sultan Muhammad Shamsuddeen III. The sultan died on 21 February 1952 on Ceylon.

The first Maldivian school, Majeediyya School, was named after Abdul Majeed.
