Who was Andy Tomasic?
Andrew John Tomasic, Sr. was a Major League Baseball and NFL player. He was born in Hokendauqua, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Allentown, Pennsylvania. He attended Temple University and was inducted into their Hall of Fame.
Tomasic was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 16th round of the 1942 NFL Draft. He was a halfback, defensive back, and return specialist and made his NFL debut in 1942. He did not play from 1943 to 1945 as he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Tomasic returned in 1946 in what would be his final NFL season.
After his NFL career ended, he played a single season in Major League Baseball with the New York Giants in 1949. In 5 innings pitched, he gave up 10 earned runs and struck out 2.
Tomasic died on November 27, 2008, in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
