Who is Ashtar Ausaf Ali?

Ashtar Ausaf Ali Urdu: اشتر اوصاف علی‎ is an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He has been an Advocate General twice. He was appointed Advisor on Human Rights by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 1997 and then Advocate General in 1998, having resigned in October 1999 immediately after the coup staged by the then General Pervaiz Musharraf. He resumed his private practice and is reckoned to be one of the most sought after litigator. He was appointed Prosecutor General Punjab in 2011 and then Advocate General in February 2012. He resigned on change of Government in April 2013 to resume his private practice at Ashtar Ali and Co

Ashtar Ausaf Ali was admitted to the Supreme Court Bar in the year 1995. He became a member of the Lahore Bar in 1986 and was enrolled as an advocate for the high courts in 1982. Mr. Ali obtained a MCL in 1981 from George Washington University,Washington D.C and is a member of Phi Delta Phi International Legal Fraternity. He completed his BA in 1975 from the Forman Christian College, Lahore, and his LLB in 1980 from Punjab University. He has been noticed by distinguished law journals and is reckoned to be one of the leading lawyers in Pakistan. He was a partner at Cornelius Lane and Mufti, and is the founder of Ashtar Ali and Co(Advocates) and Ashtar Ali and Associates (Consultants)
