Who is Do-ol?

Do-ol is the pen name of the contemporary South Korean philosopher Yong-Oak Kim. He was born June 14, 1948 in Cheonan.

He was graduated from Korea University, department of philosophy. He received master's degrees at both at the National Taiwan University and the University of Tokyo. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University, his paper being about Wang Fu Zhi.

Doh-ol is considered the nation's leading philosopher dealing with public issues and explaining Oriental philosophy to the public, as in his well-known explanation of the Diamond Sutra and Lao Tzu on television and in public lectures. In addition to philosophy, he has worked in Oriental medicine, painting, play writing, and movie writing and directing. He is an authority on all major Far Eastern philosophical movements.
