Who is Carlos Lassart?
Carlos Lassart was a french military engineer serving with the French Navy umder the Marquis of Bréze. He and Filipe Guitau arrived in Portugal in September 1641 and were involved in the works of building the Cidadela in Cascais and the Fort at Peniche. Guitau in particular appears to have been arrogant and suggested significant changes to the building work then being carried out in Cascais to the designs of Simão Mateus.However Lassart went on to become "Engenheiro-Mor do Reino" and was involved extensively on the defense works of Portugal.
