Who was Qazim Ademi?
Qazim Ademi was an Albanian folk singer and composer of Albanian polyphonic music.
Ademi was born in 1876 in Matogjin, southern Albania and died there in 1939. Qazim Ademi's songs are considered successors of the demirçe genre of Albanian polyphonic music named after Demir Ago Mystehaku–Vlonjati, another composer from Matogjin. Ademi's unique interpretations led to the creation of a new genre of Albanian polyphonic lament and elegy songs, the qazimademirçe named after him. This genre has been adopted by later well-known singers like Saliko Dalan Salaj and Avdul Ymeri. According to musicologist Bardhosh Gaçe sixty of the songs composed by Ademi are popular even today.
