Simanowitz is a resident of the Electchester housing cooperative part the neighborhood of Flushing in the New York City borough of Queens. On September 13, 2011 Simanowitz, the former Chief of Staff to his predecessor Nettie Mayersohn, was elected during a special election to the New York State Assembly.
