Who is G. S. Rajan?

G. S. Rajan is one of the top ranking exponents of the Carnatic music tradition and an outstanding world music composer. He was born in Kozhikode, Kerala to Gayathri and GS Srikrishnan who respectively trained him in Carnatic vocal music and Carnatic flute.

Rajan had his training at Kalakshetra, Chennai in vocal music under M. D. Ramanathan and Pudukode Krishnamurthy and flute under H. Ramachandra Shastry, one of the last representatives of the Sarabha Sastri baani.

Rajan worked as Deputy Secretary in the Sangeet Natak Akademi, the national academy for music, dance and drama for 14 years. Rajan has received innumerable awards and recognation for his contribution to the world of classical arts. He also contributes reviews and articles to national dailies. In 2012 Rajan moved to the United States of America.
