Who was John Blount?
John Blount was an English politician.
He was born the eldest son of Sir Thomas Blount of Kinlet, Shropshire. He succeeded his father c.1525 and was knighted in 1529.
He was elected a Member of the Parliament of England for Shropshire in 1529.
He served as a Justice of the Peace for Staffordshire 1520โ26 and for Shropshire from 1529 to his death. He was appointed High Sheriff of Staffordshire for 1526โ27 and High Sheriff of Shropshire for 1530โ31 but died in office.
He married Catherine, the daughter and coheiress of Hugh Peshall of Knightley, with whom he had three sons and five daughters. He was succeeded by his eldest son George, also to be an MP and High Sheriff.
