Who is Valerie Griffeth?

Valerie Griffeth is an American women's rugby player notable for playing in the US Women's National Team in 2012. She played in the Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament in 2003 and 2004 and played for the San Diego Surfers club team which won the 2010 national championship in Women's Division I rugby. She played in the international sevens league and played for the American Eagles national team in competitions against Italy and France. She was a USA Collegiate All-American in 2002 and 2003. In the USA Division I Club Championship in 2010, she was named Most Valuable Player. She has played a variety of positions during her eleven-year career, including fullback, wing, fly-half, and flanker. She has played for the San Diego Surfers. She played for the Senior Women All-Star Sevens Southern Cal team in 2009-2010. She began focusing on rugby after playing in an American football high school game when she scored two touchdowns by receiving lateral passes from the quarterback. She played for the American Eagles rugby team in their European tour. She played soccer and football at Westfield High School in New Jersey, and played collegiate All-Star rugby at Vassar College in 2002 and 2003. In May 2013, she received a Ph.D. in bioengineering from the University of California at San Diego.
