He is a Democrat representing the 66th district, encompassing parts of the South Bay, Los Angeles region of Los Angeles County. Prior to being elected to the state assembly, he was a prosecutor, Torrance Unified School District board trustee, and Southern California Regional Occupation Center board trustee.
