Who was Alan Buckley?
Alan Buckley was an English rugby union and professional rugby league footballer of the 1950s, '60s and '70s, playing club level rugby union for Broughton Park F.C., and playing representative level rugby league for Great Britain, and England, and at club level for Folly Lane ARLFC, and Swinton, as a Left-Centre, i.e. number 4. Buckley joined "the Lions" from Broughton Park F.C. near the end of the 1950s and was virtually an overnight sensation at Station Road tearing through opposition defences with his blistering pace and determined running.
