Who is Alan Carrington?
Alan Carrington CBE, FRS was a British chemist. He was educated at the University of Southampton where he was awarded the degrees of B. Sc. and Ph. D. He was a Fellow of Downing College, Cambridge from 1959 to 1967. From 1967 to 1984 and from 1987 to 1999, he was Professor of Chemistry at the University of Southampton. From 1984 to 1987 he was Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Jesus College, Oxford. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1971. He received the Faraday Lectureship Prize in 1986 and the Davy Medal in 1992. He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire and an Honorary Fellow of Downing College, Cambridge in 1999.
