Who is Alan E. Smith?
Alan Smith joined Genzyme in 1989. He has overall responsibility for
the company’s science. Before Integrated Genetics was acquired by
Genzyme in 1989, Dr. Smith was that company’s vice president and
scientific director. Prior to joining Integrated Genetics, he was head
of the Biochemistry Division of the National Institute for Medical
Research, Mill Hill, in London. Dr. Smith has also served as a member
of the scientific staff at London’s Imperial Cancer Research Fund. Dr.
Smith has a Ph.D. from the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge,
England and a B.A. from Christ’s College, Cambridge, England.
