Who is Alana Blanchard?

Her father taught her how to surf when she was about four years old at the Hanalei Pier. (She grew up down the street from Bruce and Andy Irons.) When she was nine, she started competing, and has since surfed around the world, winning a variety of awards, including 1st, Women’s Pipeline Championships (Hawaii), and 1st place – Rip Curl Girls Festival Jr. Pro (Spain), among others. She has gained fame as “one of the best female surfers” and surfs on the ASP World Tour.

Alana Blanchard loves visiting new places. She also is into a healthy lifestyle and finds neat places to work out, and eats local produce.

Her nickname is Lana; she has three dogs, and she is also a vegan.

Alana is best friends with fellow surfer Bethany Hamilton, and was present when Bethany was attacked by a shark. Alana names Bethany as one of her inspirations.

In an interview with freaksurfmag.com, Alana Blanchard described herself as “just an unassuming person who is kinda shy.” She added she likes to surf with flow and power, but “I’m still working on that. I am also working on doing airs.” She stays in shape with Pilates; she weighs 120 lbs.

In regards to her “hottest girl in pro surfing” label, Alana Blanchard said, “I think it’s pretty funny. They could have picked any number of girls for that…I guess there are some who think it’s a sell out but it’s happening in the most professional sports now, so why not surfing.” Alana generally wears boot bottom or Brazil bikini cuts.

Alana said in regards to her modeling career, “I feel like people didn’t know I could surf. A lot of people came up to me after my heat and were like, ‘Oh, I didn’t even know you could surf!’ I was just like, ‘Thanks!’”

When not surfing or traveling the world, Alana Blanchard lives in beautiful Kauai.
