Who is Amanda Mair?
Amanda Ulrika Magdalena Mair is a Swedish singer and musician.
Amanda Mair grew in Lidingö, Sweden where she lived with her parents who ran a bakery. Because she was underage when she started singing in night clubs, her parents would usually accompany her during the gigs. She also studied at the Rytmus Musikergymnasiet, a music school in Stockholm.
Mair was discovered by the label Labrador Records in 2010. At the time, she had no MySpace account, nor any demos recorded. Her debut single was "House," released on 8 June 2011. The single received good reviews and the Washington Post wrote "The 16-year-old Mair sounds more like Kate Bush on her gorgeous, grown-up's debut track than Kate Bush herself". Poplight on the other hand considered "House" to one of the best songs of 2011. Aftonbladet joined in the chorus of praise, and wrote "The best Kate Bush style synth pop since Bat for Lashes."
She followed it up by another single "Doubt" released October 2011 and was well received and Poplight named it "Song of the Day" for a full week. After appearances on Swedish television networks like TV4 and Kanal 5, and events like "julkalender" organized by Dagens Nyheter and in Rockbjörnen festival, she released her third single "Sense." All three singles appear in her debut self-titled album Amanda Mair released on February 15, 2012. It was produced by Philip Ekström from the group The Mary Onettes.
