Who is Are Helseth?
Are Helseth is a Norwegian physician, health administrator and politician for the Labour Party.
Born in Oslo to director Per A. Helseth and Line Arnlaug. Helseth attended Gjettum junior high school from 1968-1971 and Valler senior high school from 1971 to 1974, before enrolling in medical school at the University of Oslo. He graduated a medical doctor in 1981. He worked as a surgeon at Bærum Hospital until 2003 while simultaneously running a private practice called Helseth legesenter. In 2003 he was appointed CEO of Akershus University Hospital, a position he held until 2005.
He served as a deputy representative to the Parliament of Norway from Akershus during the terms 2009–2013 and 2013–2017. He became a full member of Parliament in 2009, covering for Anniken Huitfeldt who was a member of Stoltenberg's Second Cabinet. He remained such until Stoltenberg's Second Cabinet lost office in October 2013.
