Who is D. Gordon Smith?

D. Gordon Smith is a professor at the J. Reuben Clark Law School of Brigham Young University who is also the law school's associate dean for faculty and curriculum. Smith is an expert in corporate law.

Smith was born in Bremerton, Washington. He received a bachelors degree in accounting from BYU in 1986. He then went to the University of Chicago Law School where he earned his JD in 1990. He then was a clerk for W. Eugene Davis of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Smith spent three years with the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom before joining the faculty of Lewis and Clark Law School. After being on the faculty there for a few years he was a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison until 2007 when he joined the BYU faculty with the appointment of being the Glen L. Farr Professor of Law.

Smith's main expertise is in business law. He co-authored with Cynthia Williams the casebook Business Organizations: Cases, Problems and Case Studies.
