Who was Daniel Colchico?
Daniel Mametta Colchico was an American football defensive lineman in the National Football League. After playing college football for Diablo Valley Junior College and San Jose State, Colchico was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 7th round of the 1959 NFL Draft. He was a member of the San Francisco 49ers organization for seven years from 1960-1967 and played two seasons for the New Orleans Saints before retiring from the NFL in the San Francisco Bay Area. Amongst other accolades Dan was awarded A.P & UPI All American Honorable Mention during his collegiate career; the 1962 recipient of the San Francisco 49ers most prestigious annual honor, the Len Eshmont Award; and an inductee of the San Jose State Alumni Hall of Fame. He died in 2014 due to complications of heart surgery.
