Who is David J. Schurman?
David J Schurman is Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Emeritus at Stanford University. Dr. Schurman specializes in orthopaedic surgery with a special interest in total joint replacement. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and has been at Stanford since 1973. Dr. Schurman attended Columbia University College of Physicians Surgeons, graduating in 1965. He served his residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center from 1966 to 1967, and was then at UCLA Medical Center until 1973. He also completed a residency at Baylor University in Houston. Dr. Schurman has published over 160 journal articles and numerous book chapters over his career. Some of his research has examined and compared different methods of total hip replacements with different incision types to determine the best recovery rates for his patients undergoing these surgeries. He has also studied changes in cartilage cell metabolism that preceed the loss of joint function in osteoarthritis.
