Who is Emmanuel Muhammad?

Emmanuel Muhammad is the oldest son of Elijah Muhammad, and a leader in the Nation of Islam. He is known for receiving a 5 year prison term for refusal to serve in the World War II. He told the court "I hope the Japs win the war. Then all the Negroes will be free!" While in prison, he preached on behalf of the NOI.

After his father's death he came into conflict with his younger brother Warith Deen Mohammed, who had been appointed head of the movement. He rejected his brother's reforms, and supported Louis Farrakhan's revival of the original ideology of the Nation of Islam. He also led a protracted court battle against his brother over money left by his father, which he argued belonged to the family, but which his brother said belonged to the movement.

Within the area of Baltimore, Maryland, he had followers numbering in the hundreds. He also a published a newsletter under the title Muhammad Speaks.
