Who was Franz Berger?
Franz Berger was a highly decorated Hauptmann der Reserve in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Franz Berger was killed on 29 November 1942 during the Battle of Stalingrad. He was posthumously promoted to Hauptmann der Reserve.
