Henry Moore
Visual Artist
1831 – 1895
Who was Henry Moore?
Henry Moore was an English marine and landscape painter.
Born in York, he was a brother of both Albert Joseph and John Collingham, and the pupil of their father, William Moore. He also studied at the York School of Design and the Royal Academy. At first an excellent animal and landscape painter, he gave himself after 1857 almost entirely to marine subjects. In rendering of wave movement, in veracity of colour and texture, and in subtle atmospheric effects he has few rivals. He was elected an academician in 1893. His works include:
⁕"The Newhaven Packet"
⁕"Catspaws off the Land"
⁕"Mount's Bay"
⁕"Clear Shining after Rain" won the Gran Prix at Paris in 1889.
