Who is Iosif Langbard?
Iosif Grigor’evich Langbard, also Josef Langbard was a Soviet Belarus architect and Honored Artist of the Byelorussian SSR.
Langbard studied architecture at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, and later returned there to teach becoming a professor from 1939-1950. He was the architect of many of most important Soviet-era buildings in Minsk including the Government Building of the BSSR, the Minsk Officers’ House, the Byelorussian Theater of Opera and Ballet, and the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR. Langbard also worked on buildings in Kiev after it became the Ukrainian capital, such as the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Ukraine.
