Who is Jabari Parker?

Jabari Parker is an American college basketball player for Duke University, where he will play his freshman season for the 2013–14 team. Parker completed his high school basketball senior season for Simeon Career Academy. He is the 2012 national boys' basketball Gatorade Player of the Year and the 2013 McDonald's All-American Game Morgan Wootten national player of the year. Parker is the son of former NBA player Sonny Parker.

Many experts considered Parker the top player in the recruiting class of 2013, including ESPN, Scout.com and Rivals.com, until the summer 2012 when he endured a foot injury and Andrew Wiggins reclassified into the class of 2013. Before his junior season, Dime Magazine declared him the best high school basketball player in the country, while a ten-member panel at ESPN HS rated him second. Following his junior season, ESPN HS's panel again rated him as the second best basketball player in the country. He was the feature of a Sports Illustrated cover story as a high school junior.

At the end of his junior season he was named national Gatorade Player of the Year. He was the ESPN HS National Player of the Year for his class and an Illinois High School Association state champion as a freshman, sophomore and junior. As a junior, he was also named MaxPreps.com National Junior of the Year. He was named USA Basketball's 2011 Male Athlete of the Year at the start of his high school junior season. As a junior, he also won numerous regional Player of the Year awards, including being honored as the first non-senior Illinois Mr. Basketball and being selected as the Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year. That year, he was also named first team All-American by several selectors including ESPN HS and USA Today. In addition, he was named the The Tribune/WGN-Ch. 9 Preps Plus Athlete of the Year as the best athlete across all sports in the city as a junior. Parker draws comparisons to many elite basketball players and continues to be measured against former Simeon standout and 2011 NBA MVP, Derrick Rose.
