Who is Jack Baker?

Jack Baker was a gay activist in the U.S. state of Minnesota from 1969 to 1980. He and Michael McConnell repeatedly sought to obtain a marriage license and at one point succeeded in doing so and were married. Their attempt to assert their rights as a married couple ended when the Minnesota Supreme Court decided the case of Baker v. Nelson in 1972 and the U.S. Supreme Court dismissed their appeal "for want of a substantial federal question."
