Who was James Jameson?
James Purvis Jameson JP was Mayor of Christchurch in 1870–1871. A linen draper from the Manchester area, he emigrated with his family to Christchurch in 1863. He was involved with a large number of organisations in Christchurch and was active in the Congregational church. For a time, he was a farmer on the Canterbury Plains.
