Who was Jane Stanford?
Jane Lathrop Stanford was the co-founder of Stanford University together with her husband, Leland Stanford. They founded the university in 1891 as a memorial to their only child, Leland Stanford Jr. After her husband's death in 1893, she funded and operated the university almost single-handedly until her death in 1905.
