Who was Jørgen Tandberg?
Jørgen Johan Tandberg was a Norwegian bishop and politician.
He was born in Tønsberg. He finished his secondary education in 1833 and graduated with the cand.theol. degree in 1838. He was a teacher in Kristiania from 1840, then a school manager in Fredrikshald from 1843 and in Moss from 1848. In the same year he was appointed as a curate in Houg, a parish in the Diocese of Bergen. He was elected to the Parliament of Norway in 1857, representing the constituency Søndre Bergenhus Amt. In 1858 he was appointed as "third priest" in the Trinity Church in Kristiania, and in 1866 he became a curate in the Church of Our Saviour. He was promoted to vicar in 1872, and since the church was the diocesal cathedral, he was also the dean of the Diocese of Kristiania. From 1882 to his death in 1884 he served as the bishop of the Diocese of Kristiansand.
