Who was Mary Ellmann?

Mary Ellmann was an American writer and literary critic.

She has been particularly noted for her essay Thinking About Women, which discusses the evolution of femininity representation in British and American literature, namely by exhibiting sexual analogies and women stereotypes from the text and contrasting criticism from male and female authors.

She was married to the critic Richard Ellmann.
