Who is Nita Ambani?

Nita Ambani, the wife of Mukesh Ambani and the first lady of corporate India has a strong identity all her own. She is actively involved in various philanthrophic activities in the fields of education, human resources and disaster relief.

Nita Ambani, born on 1st Nov, 1963, grew up in the suburbs of Mumbai and hails from a middle class family. Her father was a senior Birla executive. Nita Ambani has always had a keen interest in Indian classical dance and wanted to pursue a career in dance. While her mother aspired for her to become a chartered accountant, Nita Ambani now holds qualifications as a teacher and an interior designer. Nita Ambani is a Commerce Graduate from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce & Economics, Vile Parle, Mumbai University.

Nita Ambani has been associated with Dhirubhai Ambani International School since its inception in June 2003. She is the chairperson of the school which is located in Mumbai. The Dhirubhai Ambani International School is based on Indian as well as an international curriculum that aims to develop a new model for education at the school level in India. The school is counted as one of the premium schools of Mumbai and is one of the 37 in India that offer the International Baccalaureate Program. She has also been heading the Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation which is a non-profit organization primarily devoted towards the promotion of education and health care services for the needy and under privileged in India. Nita Ambani co-owns the IPL team Mumbai Indians and has been an avid supporter of the team throughout its Twenty20 tournaments.

Nita Ambani has put been working tirelessly in order to raise the living standards of the underprivileged and needy as part of the Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation. For the same she has taken upon the task of providing for a fair share of representation to the physically challenged in call centers and associated facilities in the Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City located in Navi Mumbai. She has supervised the development of villages around the Reliance projects personally along with taking a keen interest in the upliftment of people in the vicinity. Nita Ambani is also part of Reliance Industries and UNAIDS partnership which is aimed towards halting and reversing the HIV epidemic in India.

Nita Ambani was recipient of the Samaj Seva Vishwa Bhushan at the Bharat Nari Shakti award function which was held on the International Women’s Day in 2005. She was awarded for her leadership qualities, selfless service and innovative ideas, particularly in health care and education.

Nita Ambani is married to Reliance Industries Limited’s chairman and CEO Mukesh Ambani. She is the eldest daughter-in-law to Dhirubhai Ambani and Kokilaben. Together the couple has a daughter Isha, and two sons Anant and Akash.
