Who is Patrick Smith?

Patrick Smith is an Australian sports journalist.

He is noted for his pieces in The Australian newspapers' sports section. He also appears on Hungry for Sport with Kevin Bartlett on SEN 1116.

He writes pieces on political issues in sport mainly, including the internal runnings of Australian rules football and Athletics Australia.

In 2006, Smith won the award for best column in the AFL Media Awards, beating several noted journalists, such as Caroline Wilson of The Age, and Mike Sheahan of The Herald Sun. In 2009 he was awarded a High Commendation in the Graham Perkin Award for journalistic excellence, with the judges liking his "wit and courage, and his disdain for cliché. We were impressed too that he was so often ahead of the news in his sports commentaries."
