Paula Dean Broadwell is an American writer, academic, and former military officer. Broadwell is known for the extramarital affair ending the career of David Petraeus as the Director of the CIA. The investigation was initiated when Broadwell sent anonymous threats to General Allen, Director Petraeus and Dr. Scott Kelley, a cancer surgeon married to a woman with strong military and diplomatic connections.
