Who is Peter-André Alt?

Peter-André Alt is a German literary scholar and President of the Free University of Berlin.

He was appointed as Professor of modern German literature at the University of Bochum in 1995, at the University of Würzburg in 2002, and at the Free University of Berlin in 2005. He was director of Dahlem Research School from 2008 to 2010. He has also been a visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge, Princeton University and several Italian universities.

On 12 May 2010 Alt was elected President of the Free University of Berlin. He became President of the German Schiller Society in July 2012.

He has published 16 books and a number of articles, focusing in his research on the early modern period, the Weimar Classicism and the modern classics.
