Who was Philip Smith?
Philip Smith VC was born in Lurgan, near Virginia, County Cavan in 1829. He died in Dublin on the 16 January 1906. He was an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
