Who was Raymond Bonham Carter?

The Honourable Raymond Henry Bonham Carter was a leading British banker, and a member of a distinguished British theatrical and political family.

His mother was Violet Bonham Carter, Baroness Asquith of Yarnbury, DBE, a British political activist and daughter of the Prime Minister H. H. Asquith, 1st Earl of Oxford and Asquith, KG, PC, KC, and his father was Sir Maurice Bonham Carter, a politician and cricketer. He married Elena Propper de Callejón in 1958, daughter of Spanish diplomat Eduardo Propper de Callejón and his Austrian-French Jewish wife Helene Fould-Springer. He had a daughter, Helena Bonham Carter, a two-time Academy Award nominated actress, and two sons, Edward Bonham Carter and Thomas Bonham Carter.

He was educated at St. Ronan's School, Hawkhurst, Winchester College and Magdalen College, Oxford, graduating in 1952. He then went to Harvard.

At various times he held senior posts with the Bank of England, the International Monetary Fund, Warburgs, and the Department of Industry.

In 1979, he had a brain tumour which was removed by surgery but left him seriously disabled.
