Who was Richard Buckner?
Richard Buckner, was an English portrait painter.
Buckner was the son of an army officer. After a serving in the army, he studied painting under G B Canevari in Rome.
He first painted miniatures, but then changed to painting larger portraits. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1842 and 1877.
Many engravings based on his works are in the National Portrait Gallery, London. His oil paintings Portrait of a boy and Portrait of a Boy Chorister of the Chapel Royal are in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
