Who is Rob Scholte?

Rob Scholte is a Dutch contemporary artist. From 1977 to 1982 he studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Amsterdam. His work consists of reproductions of images from the media and from art history. He lives and works in Bergen.

His work has been shown in Galerie Witteveen Amsterdam, Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst, Aachen, Groninger Museum; Fries Museum, Paleis Huis ten Bosch, Nagasaki, Sprengel Museum, Hannover, Grey Art Gallery, New York, Museum Van Bommel-Van Dam, Venlo, Kunsthaus Hamburg, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, Aperto, Venice, Boijmans Van Beuningen; Documenta, Kassel, São Paulo Art Biennial, Venice Biennale.

In 1994 Scholte lost both his legs when a hand grenade exploded under his car. In 1995 a molotov cocktail was thrown through the window of his house in Tenerife.

He is represented by many, diverse galleries.
