Who is Stacey Bent?

Dr. Stacey Bent is a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Stanford University. She also holds joint courtesy appointments in the Departments of Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Chemistry. She has led an active research group in semiconductor processing, surface science, and materials chemistry for 15 years. She supervises approximately 15 students and post-docs working toward applications in renewable energy devices and next-generation microelectronics. She is currently managing a scientific program on nanostructured solar cells.

Bent has made long-standing contributions to the field of surface science. Her group also applies atomic layer deposition and other thin film synthesis methods to energy conversion devices. Her current research efforts include studies of electrocatalyst deposition for fuel cells, deposition of inorganic thin film solar cells made from earth-abundant, non-toxic elements, interface engineering for improved efficiency in single junction solar cells, and novel materials for hydrogen storage. She is participating in two TRG's, providing key scientific expertise in ALD, surface modification, and solution-based methods for thin film growth.
