Who is Stanisław Kierbedź?
Stanisław Kierbedź was a Polish-Russian engineer and military officer. He served in the Imperial Russian Army in the rank of Major General. He authored and supervised the construction of dozens of bridges, railway lines, ports and other objects in Central and Eastern Europe.
Among his better-known works are bridges in Warsaw, the Blagoveshchensky Bridge of St. Petersburg, and the St. Stanislav's Church in St. Petersburg. Kierbedź was also the deputy director of the Saint Petersburg – Warsaw Railway, he also co-authored the design of the railway linking the Russian capital of Petersburg with imperial palaces in Krasnoye Selo and Petergof.
In 1891 he retired and settled permanently in Warsaw, where he died on April 19, 1899. He is buried in the Powązki Cemetery.
