Who is Thingfrith?

Thingfrith was an Earl of Mercia. He was the son of a certain "Eanwulf" and was descended from King Penda of Mercia's brother, Eowa of Mercia. Thingfrith was the father of Offa, who was King of Mercia from 757 until his death in July 796. Thingfrith was married to Marcellina, an Anglo-Saxon noblewoman. Both Thingfrith and Marcellina died within a year of Offa's marriage to Cynethryth.
