Who is Thomas Fearnley?
Thomas Fearnley was a Norwegian shipping magnate and philanthropist.
He was the son of shipping magnate Thomas Fearnley, grandson of romantic painter Thomas Fearnley and brother of landowner N. O. Young Fearnley. The Fearnley family is originally from England. In 1939, he founded the Thomas Fearnley Foundation; the foundation established the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art in 1993. From 1927 to 1950, he was a member of the International Olympic Committee. He was a co-founder of the gentlemen's skiing club SK Fram in 1889, and received honorary chairmanship.
