Who was Valter Nyström?

Valter Erik Nyström was a Swedish track and field athlete who competed at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. Competing out of Sandvikens Gymnastikklubb, he finished sixth out of thirty-three participants in the men's 10,000 metres event. He was born in Sandviken and was Swedish national champion in the 10,000 metre event in 1947, 1949, and 1951. He was also national champion in the 8,000 metre cross-country running event in 1947 and 1951. He was awarded the 148th Stora Grabbars Märke award in 1951, the same year that he set national records in the 10,000, 20,000, and 25,000 metre events, and the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal in 1952. Nyström died at the age of 95 on March 11, 2011.
