Who is Von Jour Caux?

Von Jour Caux is the pseudonym of Toshiro Tanaka, a Japanese architect, artist, and thinker. He has been referred to as the Japanese Gaudi.

Von was born in Asakusa, Tokyo. He studied architecture at the Waseda University and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

In 1958 Von commenced work as an orthodox architect, but in 1971 abandoned conventional architectural practice, and in 1974 formed a troupe of artists and craftsmen called Art Complex. Their practice is the revival of "arts and crafts" in architectural space, such as the use of ornaments, symbolic icons and style, as the "Art Complex Movement".
