Who was Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah?
Aamir ibn `Abdullah ibn al-Jarrah, more commonly known as Abu 'Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah, was one of companions of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. He remained commander of a large section of Muslim armies during the time of Caliph Umar and was on the list of Umar's appointed successors to the Caliphate.
