Who was Adam Wise?
Group Captain Adam Nugent Wise LVO MBE RAF was Private Secretary and Equerry to Prince Andrew and Prince Edward from 1983 to 1987.
Wise was born in 1943 and educated at university, and the RAF College Cranwell. He became a pilot in the Royal Air Force, and qualified as a First Class Interpreter, and attended the Joint Service Defence College.
As a Squadron Leader he was Equerry to The Queen 1980–1983. He was then appointed Private Secretary and Equerry to Prince Andrew and Prince Edward 24 October 1983. On 1 July 1984 he was promoted to Wing Commander. On 16 December 1983 he married Jill Amabel Alington, daughter of Cyril Geoffrey Marmaduke Alington of Swinhope, Lincs, and Helen Amabel née Westmacott, with whom he had two children, Sophia Katherine Cassandra and Alexander Geoffrey Roy.
From 30 March 1988 he was on the staff of the RAF College, Cranwell, and on 17 November 1989 became Director of the University Air Squadrons. He was promoted to Group Captain 1 July 1990, and became Station Commander RAF Benson. By 1992 he was Aide-de-Camp to The Queen. Served as Military and Air Attaché at the British Embassy in Madrid, Spain, from 1993 to 1997.
Wise died on 14 February 2008.
