Who is Akhtar Raza Khan?
Akhtar Raza Khan is an Islamic jurist, born on Tuesday 2 February 1943 in the district of Saudagran in the city of Bareilly, India. The name given during his Aqeeqah was Muhammad. He was also given the name Muhammad Ismail Raza. The name by which he is currently known is Akhtar Raza.
He has been ranked 26th in the list of most influential Muslims in the world by the Royal Islamic Society of Jordan. He has been adjudged in India as leader of the Barelvi movement.
He belongs to the Hanafi school of law of the Sunni denomination of Islam. India is a secular state and the government does not appoint the Grand Mufti, nor other religious office-bearers; the Muslim community of India appoint their Grand Mufti.
