Who was Al-Ma'mun?
Abū Jaʿfar Abdullāh al-Maʾmūn ibn Harūn was an Abbasid caliph who reigned from 813 until his death in 833. He succeeded his brother al-Amin who was killed during the siege of Baghdad.
