Who is Alan Jilka?
Alan Jilka is a former 3-term Mayor and City Commissioner of Salina, Kansas, and Democrat Nominee for the 1st Congressional District of Kansas in the U.S. House. Alan lost that election in 2010 to Tim Huelskamp. Alan is a Catholic of Czech-descent, and he graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in History, and also has an MA in Comparative Literature from the University of South Carolina. Alan began his political career as a legislative aide to Congressman Dan Glickman. Alan has finished the coursework towards a PhD in Spanish and Portuguese from Vanderbilt University, and has lived four years in Guadalajara, Mexico and Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. He is a writer on various blogs and newspaper sites such as the Kansas Free Press, on issues of business and politics.
